Artspace, a national nonprofit, aims to turn once-grand eyesores into artists colonies
ArtSpace Elgin Lofts is a 55-unit tax-credit housing project for low-income artists. A 1908 department store will be renovated into apartments and gallery space, and an existing parking lot will be demolished to accomodate a new three-story structure with additional units and a rooftop patio. A courtyard between the two buildings provide space for exterior sculpture and for children to play. BKV Group is providing Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Interior Design, Structrual Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering services out of the Chicago office.
