Total Square Footage: 87,000 sq ft
Construction Cost:
Completion Date: 2006

The new Edina City Hall and Police Facility, located on a highly visible and particularly challenging triangular site surrounded by mature trees and high-value properties, is grounded with a stone plaza linking the site, parking, exterior plazas and lobby with the neighboring community. The two-story 87,000 sf building supports the city operations and services to the public including council chambers, public conference rooms and the Police Department with a secured underground parking.

The design of the City Hall and Police Station facilitates open and accessible communication within a building used for multiple civic functions. The idea of connectivity was instrumental in determining organization and flow of the building. The design consists of two masses situated around an open lobby that acts as a street connecting the City Hall with the Police Department. The use of interior glass curtain walls offers a visual connection to the workings of city government from the public’s perspective. The design was developed to maximize natural lighting and enhance the architectural quality of this major public space.
