Worthington Area YMCA

BKV Group provided complete architectural and engineering services for the new 45,000 sf facility located on the campus of Minnesota West Community and Technical College. This project represents a unique collaboration between the YMCA, City of Worthington, and Minnesota West Community and Technical College toward the common goal of a shared facility. The building plan uses innovative zoning to create distinct zones of occupancy and security while maintaining generous amounts of openness, transparency and daylight. The diverse building programs (indoor/outdoor aquatics center, gymnasium, fitness center, running track, meeting room and children’s area) co-exist harmoniously in an efficient floor plan.

The design process identified the needs of the three major stakeholders, coordinated these needs into a common vision, and implemented the vision into a unified design. The exterior materials include textured concrete panels, bronze anodized metal panels and glass curtain wall.
