An early needs assessment study established the functional criteria for the new 30,000 sf two-story Brooklyn Center Police Station. The restrictive size of this urban site is used to its advantage, allowing the building to screen the secured squad motor court and sallyport access, while presenting an inviting approach to the public parking area and main entrance.
The two major portions of the building are joined together by a two-story circulation corridor enhanced by daylighting. Most of the fixed squad support areas, such as booking and detention, the K-9 units, property and evidence, lockers and showers, are group-located to one side of the circulation spine while the more flexible areas for administration, records and investigations are positioned on the opposite side.
The architectural pre-cast exterior presents a professional yet functional image.
